What to Do

Himeji Castle - A short walk from Himeji Station. It's currently under reconstruction until 2014, but as of March 2011, you can take an elevator to see work at all levels.

Himeji Zoo - Within the walls of Himeji Castle, this zoo isn't too large but only costs 200 yen. They do have a number of animals, most of which seem healthy enough, and you can get quite close to their enclosures. Crowds can be small on regular weekends, and for 200 yen it's worth having a look.
